California State Disability Insurance (SDI) is a partial wage-replacement insurance plan for California workers (appears as CA SDI deduction on your paycheck stub). The SDI program is State-mandated, and funded through employee payroll deductions. SDI provides affordable, short-term benefits to eligible workers who suffer a loss of wages when they are unable to work due to a NON WORK-RELATED illness or injury, or a medically disabling condition from pregnancy or childbirth.

Financial assistance for UAL F/As due to illness, injury or disability.
Mission Statement: The CAUSE Foundation® was established in 1994 by flight attendants for Flight Attendants. Our mission is to assist United Airlines flight attendants and their families worldwide who are in financial distress due to illness, injury, disability or death.
The CAUSE Foundation® helps families maintain their dignity when faced with loss of income or overwhelming medical bills.

The Pegasus Project
Financial assistance for AFA F/As due to critical, life-threatening illness or injury.
Mission Statement: The Project provides short-term emergency grants for members of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) who are experiencing financial hardship due to a critical, life-threatening illness or injury. These efforts are accomplished with compassion, confidentiality and the preservation of dignity and respect for the individuals concerned. |

CARE Rate Discount Program
California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) Program.
The CARE Program offers income-qualified customers a 20% discount off their monthly bills. Enrolled customers are also exempt from the 2001 rate increases ordered by the California Public Utilities Commission. To qualify, customers must meet program income guidelines. Email SoCal Edison or Call 1-800-447-6620 if you have any questions.

The Gas Company® offers a 20% rate discount through the CARE program. If you’re establishing new service, you may also qualify for a 60% discount on the Service Establishment Charge if you qualify for CARE within 90 days of starting new gas service.

Lifeline - Reduced Rate Phone Service
If you qualify for a Lifeline service, you are eligible to receive a reduced rate on your Verizon (or Pacific Bell or SureWest) monthly bill. There may be a discount on the cost of installing the new service also. In addition, toll blocking is available to Lifeline customers at no charge.
Qualifications for Lifeline service vary by state. To see if you qualify for a Lifeline service, visit the Lifeline Support web site at www.lifelinesupport.org. You can also call your local business office for your service area to determine eligibility.

Payment Assistance Available to Laid Off Workers
The Union Plus MasterCard, loan and mortgage programs have established hotlines to assist laid off workers who have difficulty making payments.
By calling the credit card hotline - 1-800-551-2873 - or the loan hotline - 1-800-365-1328 - a laid off worker will be told by a bank specialist what kind of help is available based on the member's payment history and credit record. Assistance may include skip payment options, interest rate reductions, account settlements, credit counseling and other hardship programs.
For Union Plus mortgage holders, laid off workers may receive flexibility regarding late fees or interest-free loans to help make mortgage payments. The mortgage program hotline is 1-800-848-6466.

CWA Patient Assistance Fund at the Marrow Foundation
Working with the Marrow Foundation, CWA Locals and their members have engaged in an important service and helped saved lives of patients with life-threatening blood diseases. Since 1998, we have forged a partnership with The Marrow Foundation and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), enrolling our members as volunteers in the national Registry of unrelated marrow and blood stem cell donors, and encouraging our locals to donate to the Foundation's CWA Patient Assistance Fund. This Fund was established to help CWA members in need of financial assistance to proceed with marrow or blood stem cell transplants.

Domestic Violence Hotline (L.A. County District Attorney's Office)
Eradicating domestic violence and the cycle of community violence to which it contributes is a major priority of the District Attorney's Office. In November of 1994, the District Attorney established the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Hotline to help victims find "A Safe Way Out" of their abusive environments. This toll-free service routes Southern California victims of domestic violence directly to trained shelter personnel in Los Angeles County. |
