A Milestone In AFALAX.org History

December 2009: AFALAX.org Turns FOUR!

[12.28.09] -- Today marks the FOUR-YEAR anniversary of our AFALAX.org site. On December 28, 2005, AFA Los Angeles President Darren Shiroma and Vice President Karrie Forbes together pushed the button that launched our AFALAX.org website into cyberspace. Our historic website has been the focal point of electronic communication for Flight Attendants at LAX, and we're proud of the astounding number of visits to our website. Your desire for information online, 24/7, and on your time was the genesis of our AFALAX.org site, and we couldn't have done it without you; our audience. We continue to experience over 300-400 visitors to our AFALAX.org site each day, and tens of thousands of views per month!

We would like to thank each and every one of you who regularly communicate with us to improve the way we communicate the information you ask for, and as always, look for further involvement from every Flight Attendant at LAX. Staying informed and involved has been the key to our success, and we have many more accomplishments to discover in the years ahead.

By The Numbers & Statistics
December 2007: AFALAX.org Turns Two Today!

Total hits for 2007 reaches 2.1 million, annual visitor count tops 260,000

[12.28.07]
-- As we celebrate the two-year anniversary of our LEC site, we'd like to thank each of you for helping get the word out on AFALAX.org. Based firmly on Flight Attendant feedback, and incorporating information related to our work lives here at LAX was the starting point for AFALAX.org. We've grown a lot in two years. The total hits for our first year, which was the year ending December 2006 was 830,500 - this December, we end the year exceeding 2.1 million hits (see chart below).

Your LEC Officers were unsure if the venture would be fruitful when we began AFALAX.org two years ago - we now look back at the stats for our site and can't help but be at a loss for words. The sheer numbers have proven the positive change and impact we've had in communications at LAX. Providing relevant, real time, and credible information is important to us - your communication, reporting, and feedback continues to be a large part of the success we enjoy with AFALAX.org.

"Visitors" are registered by unique visits to our AFALAX.org site (multiple visits by the same computer are not counted in the "Visitor" count), "Hits" include the totals for how many times our site was "hit" each additional time a visitor came to our site.

We'd also like to thank the lineup of AFA Activists who support our coworkers here at LAX. Each and every one of our peers on the various LEC Committees are important pieces of a foundation that supports our Flight Attendant community behind the scenes. We're always in search of our flying partners who are interested in taking part in the advancement and support of our careers, so drop us an email to get onboard now. Visit the "Committee Roster" page for an overview of each Committee. Clicking on each Committee header will provide you with more details and information. Whether it be for 20 minutes per month, to two days per month, every element of your contribution furthers our strength.

  Other fast facts about AFALAX.org:

We still have a handful of F/As at LAX who have computers, but are still unaware of our AFALAX.org site. We need you to pass the word along and share the wealth of information here. We encourage you to spread the support along and help get everyone on the same page!

With Thanks,

June 2006 to June 2007 Stats

Visitors to AFALAX.org reach 154,000; total Hits exceed 1.2 Million

[09.21.07]
-- We've run the stats on our almost two-year old website, and we're humbled by the amount of visitors welcomed to AFALAX.org. As we near our second anniversary this coming December, we also recognize that it's not about numbers; it's about communication. Your LEC Officers have proudly achieved what we set out to do when we established AFALAX.org. With the amount of information we're able to produce in today's fast-paced world, Flight Attendants have grown into our own information superhighway.

In a few months, we celebrate the two-year anniversary of AFALAX.org, and the 24/7 avenue of information we've opened up. Thanks to each Flight Attendant who provided their feedback; your input is invaluable, and truly illustrates our motto: "Built by Flight Attendants - For Flight Attendants."

We saw a noticeable and marked increase in visitors to our site in March 2007, when our flying partner Jo Longway Reinhardt's story went public. Realizing that not only our Flight Attendant community is coming to our site, we can only surmise that both public, media (and management) attention explains the 156,000+ visitors who came to AFALAX.org in March alone.

  Other fast facts about AFALAX.org:

• AFALAX.org now handles an average of 400 visitors per day
• Average page views per day exceed 700 pages
• Hits increase 50% - 60% on days following AFALAXNEWS transmission

Crew Scheduler Reporting & RSV Report Form is the most-downloaded document

We're inspired by the size of our audience on AFALAX.org, and ask that you continue to talk about our site within our Flight Attendant community. We look forward to many more years of providing you with the information you need - take the time to stay informed! We built it, and we thank you for coming. Thanks to everyone for being a part of AFALAX.org; from the regular Flight Attendant visitors - to our LAX Committee members & AFA Activists. Your input is valuable on each and every level of involvement.

We want to hear from you! Ideas, Kudos, Comments, Suggestions for AFALAX.org? Let us know and send us an email at info@afalax.org.

Number of Visitors To Our Site In 2006 Takes Off!

Year-old site currently averages 280 visitors per day, engages F/As at LAX

[12.12.06] -- The numbers for our website stats are in. We've reached more people than we'd ever thought possible, and it is truly remarkable. The one-year anniversary of our site is December 28th, 2006.

Our LEC website has taken over the communications highway for Flight Attendants here at LAX and enabled us to keep up-to-speed on the information we need most.

This past August, when the London Terror Alert was announced, AFALAX.org took on an average increase of 40-50% more visitors than normal. This is a clear indication why this avenue of communication is so crucial to us. Flight Attendants on layover in LHR, NRT, SYD and HNL were able to obtain info on a real-time basis.

Flight Attendants reported that they were able to gain Internet access and connect to our website from business centers or computers at their layover hotels, Internet Cafés, and on their laptops - all remotely, and from thousands of miles away! Though the numbers are out of this world, we still have many of our own LAX-based Flight Attendant colleagues who remain out of the loop. Let's make it our collective goal to talk about our site on each layover, sit and conversation. Send a reminder email to all of your F/A friends about AFALAX.org.

  Other fast facts about AFALAX.org:

• Our LEC site handles between 250 to 600 F/As per day
• Thursdays receive approximately 20% more visits than any day of the week
• Monthly visitor count is between 5,300 (Feb 2006) to 11,500 (Sep 2006)
• Over 1,300 F/As (systemwide) receive AFALAXNEWS
• Over 250 F/As have signed up for AFALAXNEWS in 2006
• Our top referring sites are unitedafa.org and jumpseatnews.com
• Many retirees use our site to stay connected to the issues

Celebrate the one-year anniversary of our site by sharing it with our coworkers! It can't provide the wealth of information without them knowing about its existence! Pay it forward and share the wealth (of information).

If you're new to our LEC website - click HERE to read what our fellow crewmembers are saying about Los Angeles Council 12 and AFALAX.org! We'd like to thank all of you for your support, words of encouragement and positive comments over the past year. We built the website that we've all wanted for so many years - this site is dedicated to the 1900 Flight Attendants based here at LAX, and we encourage every F/A to take the info we provide out to the line.

It's hard to imagine that we've served for over one full year as your LEC Officers. Karrie and I are proud of the work we've done, and we look forward to many more years of working together to support our base. If you'd like to assist us in supporting our membership and get involved with content, articles or info contained within our site, please send us an email via the "Contact Us" page!

AFALAX.ORG: Visitors Exceed 37,500!

[05.23.06] -- Our website has taken on astronomical proportions! The unique visitors to our local site, which will reach its 5 month anniversary in a few days, has surpassed 37,500! The amount of hits for the site over the last 5 months topped 337,000! These statistics are beyond anything that was expected when our site was born on December 28, 2005.

New sections and pages added to our site are the result of input from our local membership and LEC Activists & Committee Volunteers. We encourage you to keep in touch and provide any suggestions for future growth. We will all benefit when ideas are shared. The ability for us to collectively remain on the same page and disseminate information on a real-time basis has allowed us to quash rumors and dispell misinformation at a record-setting pace. Info from our site and our AFALAXNEWS e-newsletter spreads on the line like wildfire and we're appreciative of your efforts to support our flying partners by keeping them in the loop.

In Solidarity,
Darren & Karrie

January 2006: LAX Council 12 Site Receives Over 5,200 Visitors!

[01.20.06] -- The Council 12 website has logged an astonishing 5,200 visitors to our site as of last week. This does not include "hits" which register the amount of times the site was visited by the same person on the same computer. Our site has only been up and running since December 28, 2005 - a little less than a month ago!

So, in other words, we've created a huge wave of interest -- not only here at LAX, but systemwide! Also, we know that management and supervisors have taken note of our site and have been visiting it regularly - noting changes and additions to the daily updates. There's no denying that the site's sole focus is the support and enhancement of F/A's work life and its abundance of informational tools. They've addressed specific aspects about the site, but don't have the power to control it.

INFORMATION & KNOWLEDGE IS POWERFUL!
An informed & educated work group cannot be oppressed!

Stay connected with the site, and get all of our flying partners here at LAX in the loop. Help avoid rumor and speculation. Get the facts and find out about the latest happenings at our domicile. Stay focused on keeping each other on the same page. Never forget where we've been, and keep your eyes on our future as our company emerges from Bankruptcy and the Chapter 11 process. We will survive. Continue to take a stand against inequity and repression. Stay tuned to all AFA channels, and do not let anyone attempt to "divide and conquer" over our solidarity!
