AFA Los Angeles Council 12 (AFA-CWA Local 29012) takes home two CWA Electronic Communications Awards in Washington, D.C. at the 2009 CWA Convention

[06.28.09] – Our four-year-old AFALAX.org website took home the “Best Local Website – Honorable Mention” award in the judged contest, and our AFALAXNEWS e-newsletter placed top honors by receiving “Best E-Newsletter” in the judged contest for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, our AFALAX.org website did not take the “Member’s Choice” award, which was voted on by CWA members (and AFA-CWA members) within our union.

Over the years, your officers at LAX Council 12 have strived to bring our colleagues the most up-to-date and relevant information by means of the Internet over the course of the last nine years in Los Angeles. It was nine years ago, in January 2000, that our AFALAXNEWS e-newsletter began in a Yahoo Groups format. Then, in late 2005, it was transitioned "in-house" under the umbrella of our AFA MEC Communications. We currently have 1,500 active, retired, and out-of-base Flight Attendants on our AFALAXNEWS e-newsletter email list, which continues to grow each year.

Flight Attendants are the reason for our success!

Our Local Council website, AFALAX.org was built from the ground up in November 2005, and has continued to grow and flourish ever since. Flight Attendants asked for a base-specific website, and we built it -- Flight Attendants are the reason for our success! For the first six months of 2009, our AFALAX.org website received between 14,000 to 16,000 visitors per month! We have been able to dispel many rumors while providing credible, reliable information 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and make it accessible from anywhere in the world. Spread the word -- AFALAX.org is your one-stop LAX shop for union information!

Local President Darren Shiroma publishes, writes, and edits both the AFALAX.org website, and AFALAXNEWS e-newsletter on behalf of the 1,600 Los Angeles-based Flight Attendants and we’re always looking for continued input and feedback.
