9/11 Seventh Anniversary (2008) Memorial Service - San Diego USS Midway, San Diego Navy Pier | September 11, 2008

[09.11.08] – San Diego, CA – Flight Attendants from United and American Airlines gathered again on this day to remember and honor their fallen colleagues from September 11, 2001 aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Midway at the San Diego Navy Pier.
The FDNY Retirees of California event draws hundreds each year as the names of the fallen First Responders are read aloud in the memorial ceremony.
Dozens of representatives from the FDNY, Southern California Fire, Police, FBI, Customs & Border Patrol, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army, EMT, and Airline gathered to remember the fallen First Responders of 9/11.
Several LAX-based Flight Attendants read the names of Flight Attendants lost aboard the four 9/11 flights, including former Boston-based Flight Attendant Barbara Schmidt, who stepped up to the podium to read the name of “her dear friend Amy Jarret,” as bells tolled in memory of the First Responders of September 11, 2001.
Retired LAX-based Flight Attendant Trudi Lang, now the lead Safety Coordinator aboard the USS Midway, met with American and United Flight Attendants, noting “the memories of 9/11 never fade,” and saying “it’s important to take a moment to remember the crewmembers who lost their lives.”
The FDNY Retirees of California hosted a dinner reception at the Old Firehouse Museum near downtown San Diego in Little Italy, and welcomed Flight Attendants and Pilots to join them in remembrance and fellowship.
Again, we thank LAX Council 12 Member Vicki Jurgens (our AFA MEC Safety, Health & Security Chair) for her coordination efforts, and FDNY Retirees of California Retired President Jack Toale for his inclusion of our Flight Attendant Family at this annual event.
