We encourage all F/As to Review the information, Retain the booklets, and know where to Reference the information and resources in the future in order to arm yourself with the necessary tools. Keep the booklet in your suitcase or tote, or keep it near the phone at home so you're able to reference it when you need it.
Flight Attendants at both Alaska & Southwest have reported to work under this system for many years
In January 2008, AFA announced a new agreement with the company for resolving disputes along with new procedures for Attendance and Performance. AFA advocated for a new way of resolving disputes and handling attendance and performance issues so that Flight Attendants could experience faster results through a process that is transparent, consistent and fair. With the new program in place, F/As will no longer have a "grey area" when it comes to Attendance & Performance; everyone will have clear cut knowledge of point accumulation and tracking. The program, which mirrors the language in the Southwest and Alaska Contract, vastly changes the way attendance and performance is managed at our airline.
AFA and the Company reached an agreement that provides both an expedited process to resolve everyday Contract and Company Policy disputes and a two-track performance management system that includes a more objective attendance policy for F/As at United Airlines. On July 23, 2008, F/A work histories were expunged of discipline as outlined in the Agreement.
Performance management system moves into two-track system as opposed to current single-track
The new system will split Performance issues and Dependability issues into two separate tracks, as opposed to the single, combined track that we've known for decades. Additionally, you'll see that if points accumulate into discipline, the initial steps remain in the Work History for a 12 month period as opposed to the current 24 month period (note: as discipline moves into higher levels, 18 and 24 month timeframes apply - review your personal guide booklet for more).
Please be sure to thoroughly review these points of information, and remember to reference it as we transition into the new system. Knowing what the policies and processes are BEFORE HAND will help protect you from future misunderstandings and increase individual awareness.
The MEC website includes an entire page with reference material, which was reposted via a link on our AFALAX.org site:

Remember, the new program is effective August 11, 2008 - from this day forward, all Dependability & Performance issues (the "point system") will be managed under the terms of this Letter of Agreement. If you have additional questions once you’ve reviewed your resources, you may submit an email at afalax@unitedafa.org – please be sure to include your file number and name in each email submission.
